Stitch By Stitch Quilters' Guild - Our History

GUILD HISTORY:

The Stitch by Stitch Quilters Guild was organized on June 9, 1994, for the purpose of promoting the love of quilting.  The eight original charter members of the organization were Janis Eddy, Beth Hanes, Gina Holder (Hare), Georgia Kateman, Beth LaGore, Judy Purdy, Georgann DeMoss and Tina Robinson.

The original officers who were elected to serve for the 1994-95 year were:

President: Tina Robinson

Vice President:  Georgia Kateman

Secretary/Treasurer:  Beth Hanes

The logo officially adopted by the Guild is the Amish Basket.

The Guild’s first quilt show was presented in October of 2003, after member and Blackwater community member Georgia Kateman was approached by the Blackwater Fall Festival Committee, asking the guild to do a quilt show at the Blackwater United Methodist Church building during the Blackwater Fall Festival.  The show was ultimately set up in the Senior Center building, where it was held for two years.  In 2005 and 2006 the show was presented in an empty store building in the downtown area, and 2007 and 2008 in the Blackwater Train Depot.  In 2009 the decision was made to move the show to the Arrow Rock Fall Festival, and the show has remained at that location to the present time.

On December
11, 2004 we lost our dear friend Georgia Kateman, and in her honor the quilt shows since that time have been renamed the Georgia Kateman Memorial Quilt Show.
